3DVIA is announcing an expansion of both hardware and file
format support on 3DVIA.com, its online community of creative
professionals, 3D artists, and enthusiasts. 3D models hosted in the
3DVIA.com library, including those created using the company’s free
3DVIA Shape modeling application, can now be exchanged using the
COLLADA open 3D exchange format created by the Khronos Group.
3DVIA.com, an online community of more than 110,000 3D artists,
experts, and enthusiasts, now automatically converts and publishs all
models uploaded by community members to its own .3dxml format, as well
as the COLLADA .dae file format. It connects 3DVIA.com and the 3DVIA
Shape free 3D modeling software to the wide range of digital content
creation software and applications that also support the .dae format.
3DVIA.com already supports the uploading and sharing of 3D models in
many popular file formats including .3ds, .obj, .kmz, .iges, and .step.
The company also is releasing 3DVIA Mobile, a new 3D application for the Apple iPhone, which extends the 3DVIA community to mobile users, enabling them to share 3D models in new ways with friends and colleagues. The application can take 2D images taken with the iPhone and enable users to input 3D images from the 3DVIA community, and it allows 3D enthusiasts to access their accounts and communicate on the go.
