Sketchfab Offers Download API For Searching 3D Content

NEW YORK CITY — Sketchfab (https://sketchfab.com), which offers a platform for sharing 3D content, has released a new Download API that app makers can now use to pull Sketchfab content directly into their 3D, VR and AR software without having to leave their app environment. The API opens up hundreds of thousands of models under Creative Commons licensing and lets users search content by titles, tags, categories, polygon count and more.
Alongside the release of the API, Sketchfab has introduced import addons for Unity, Unreal and Godot, as well as native integrations with Torch3D, Minsight, Spatial stories, Selerio, StellarX, Holobeam, AnimVR, Plattar, Sketchbox3D and Looking Glass. Further, Sketchfab has announced partnerships with a significant group of developers planning Download API integration in the coming months, including Amazon Sumerian, Substance, Modo, High Fidelity Sansar, The Wave VR, MasterpieceVR and Meta.

“Since we started Sketchfab in 2012, we’ve been on a mission to help democratize 3D, and make it accessible everywhere,” says co-founder and CEO, Alban Denoyel. “Bringing 3D content everywhere also means sharing it outside of Sketchfab, so that it can be used in more ways, and as part of bigger projects. The download API is our first major step forward into these exterior environments.”

With a community of over one million creators, Sketchfab is one of the world’s largest platforms for publishing, sharing, and discovering 3D content.
